Our research report on ‘Young Wexford People talking about Sex’ was launched in Wexford town on 12^th October 2015.

Did you know…

-The legal age of consent in Ireland is 17 – whether you’re a girl, guy, gay, or straight.

The burden of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) is greatest among young people under the age of 25.

The most frequently reported STIs in Ireland are chlamydia – comprising over half of all reported cases – followed by anogenital warts, gonorrhoea, and herpes.

Reported STI cases in Ireland rose from 3,361 in 1995 to 12,719 in 2012 – roughly a 300% increase.

-You can’t tell by looking at someone if they have an STI.

The largest study of young people’s sexual behaviour and attitudes, Understanding Teenage Sexuality in Ireland* (also known as the Hyde Report), was done in 2004 and features interviews and information from 226 students across the country.
